Step-by-Step:

———

0) Preparations

Download and install HTC Sync Manager, by clicking here.

Download this file and copy it to your phone, without extracting.

1) Unlocking your bootloader

Your phone battery should be 80-85% charged. If your phone goes off suddenly because of battery, during flashing ROMs or installing mods and updates — your phone might go dead permanently.

Backup all your important data that you might need because unlocking your bootloader will delete/wipe all your data.

This tutorial is only for unlocked HTC phones. Carrier / network locked HTC phones are not supported by this tutorial.

Step 1: Go to HTCDev.com website and register.

unlock-htc-1-600x331

Step 2: Click on “Unlock Bootloader” button and click the “Get Started” button.

unlock-htc-3-600x331

Step 3:Select “All Other Supported Models” from the dropdown list and then click the “Begin Unlock Bootloader” button.

Step 4: Read the warning popup message and then press the ‘Yes’ button.

Step 5: Check both the boxes in the Legal Terms popup box. Now press the “Proceed to Unlock Instructions” button.

unlock-htc-6-600x331

Step 6: Download Fastboot

Step 7: Hold the Power button on your HTC device for 10 seconds to completely turn it off.

Step 8: Press Volume Down and Power to start the device into Bootloader mode.

Step 9: Use the Volume buttons to select up or down. Highlight Fastboot and press the Power button to select.

Step 10: Connect your HTC device to the computer via a USB cable.

Step 11: Click the Start button and type ‘cmd’ (without quotes) and press Enter.

Step 12: In the Command Prompt window, type the following command and press Enter.

cd c:fastboot

unlock-htc-11-600x304

Step 13: Now type the following command and press Enter.

fastboot oem get_identifier_token

Step 14: You will see a long string of text (identifier token). What to do now? Open this page on HTCDev.

Step 15: Now follow the instructions as given there to select and copy text from Command Prompt.

Step 16: Once copied, paste that identifier token into the box at the bottom of that HTCDev page and then click Submit.

unlock-htc-12-600x369

Step 17: You will receive an email by HTC (on the registered email) with a link to the second part of the instructions and your “Unlock_code.bin” file attached.

Step 18: Download “Unlock_code.bin” and save it in your Fastboot folder (C:fastbooot in our case).

Step 19: Now type the following command in Command Prompt and press Enter.

fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin

Step 20: Check your phone. Read on-screen instructions. Press Volume Up to accept and the Power button to confirm.

Now you are done unlocking your bootloader!

2) Installing Clockwork Mod

Step 1: Download and extract Hasoon2000’s All-in-One Toolkit.

Step 2: Start it up and click “CWM”, then click “Flash Recovey”.

clock-1

Step 3: Follow the instructions given by the toolkit and install ClockWork Mod.

3) Rooting

Step 1: Once done installing the clockwork mod select “Recovery” in the menu and you will be booted in ClockWork Mod.

Step 2: Choose “install zip from sdcard” and navigate to the ZIP file you downloaded and copied to your phone.

Step 3: Click on the ZIP file and it will be installed.

Step 4: Reboot your device.

You have successfully rooted your HTC Desire C!

is it possible to install custom ROM’s after rooting the device…?
if so pls provide some links where i can get some custom ROM’s.
    thanks in advance.

    • oakdevelopers June 3, 2013 at 5:23 am Reply

Yes, it is possible. Just download a custom ROM from this page http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1989 and copy the ZIP file downloaded on your memory card. Then boot into recovery mode, make a backup of your phone via ClockWorkMod, empty the cache and choose install update from zip, then choose the zip file you downloaded. If anything goes wrong you can restore you backup.

I have problem with installing CWM. Step 3 says “Follow the instructions given by the toolkit and install ClockWork Mod”, but after choosing option CWM and pushing button Flash Recovery phone goes to bootloader menu and then nothing happens. It should reboot itself, but this does not happen. Where can be problem?
